I am officially the proud possessor of two school uniforms, complete with a myriad of buttons, clips, belts, pins, and buckles that go…somewhere. I have never worn a school uniform before and the uniforms in Korean dramas don’t look nearly this complicated! My Thai friend just laughed when I looked at her in bafflement.
But I am grateful she went shopping with me. Otherwise I would definitely not have known I needed the Law pin, or the separate belt buckle, or closed toed heels. All the study abroad office told me was, “Go buy a uniform at the bookstore.”
Pictures to come once I figure out how to get the dang thing together! (I’m snipping off buttons and clipping other ones on and other such baffling stuff. I sure wish my Grandma lived closer!)
After a semester in England and a summer in Idaho, I like to think I’ve got the whole ‘living out of a suitcase for several months’ thing down pat. I have yet, however, to get used to preparing for a fancy event while relying exclusively on my own wardrobe – and much less so with only 1/8th of my wardrobe.
This weekend I’m attending a fancy reception. By sheer chance, while packing for this summer, it occurred to me to throw a Little Black Dress in my bag. After all, you never know. That spur of the moment decision saved me from finding a whole new dress. However, I did not think to pack accessories!
Back home, if I needed accessories, I would go home. There I would have access to three collections (belonging to my Mother and two sisters) all besides my own. Everything would fit. Everything would generally match. And if it didn’t, I would jump into my car and drive to a place to find something that did.
But not here. Vehicle-, sister-, and Charming Charlie-less, I am forced to fall back on my own innovation! And that is never a good sign.
Thankfully, I have 4 roommates and 8 housemates and even though their wardrobes are similarly limited in the cocktail party department, we’ve managed to patch something together. (Thank goodness for Amazon Prime and two day delivery!)
At any rate, matching clutch or not, this weekend will be amazing. Stay tuned for more details. Hint: I won’t be in Colorado Springs!
